FOREIGN POLICY
ISSUE AT BY-ELECTION THE LICHFIELD SEAT LONDON, April 14 The broad issue at the forthcoming by-election for Lichfield, as at West Fulham (captured by Labour), will be the Government's foreign policy. The Labour candidate will use, as at West Fulham, the "wobble to war" slogan. Mr. Craddock, the National Labour (Government) candidate, says he has visited Italy every year for five years. He says he has seen the growth there of anti-British antagonism, and is convinced that' it is "now or never." If Britain had refused Italy's request for conversations it would have led to war. Mr. Chamberlain, he states, has faced facts and warned Europe of the limit to* British patience. The Liberals are not running a candidate, but have decided to send a questionnaire to the candidates.
