THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BRIGHTER TONE CONTINUES With further reports of improvement overseas to sustain confidence, tho brighter tone in evidence on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Monday was continued yesterday. Tho volume of business was not large, but price movements generally showed an upward tendency. Evidence that caution is still being displayed was given in the continued inquiry for gilt-edged securities. Banks were steady and New Zealands remained firm in two transactions. Offers for Unions of Australia were raised 2s. Slightly more interest was displayed in insurance, and South British gained ground with a sale 3d higher. Support for New Zealands also was stronger. P. and O. deterred stock changed hands in the first salo since April of last year at tho highest levels for some days. Breweries also showed improve-, ment and, although New Zealands were marked down 011 tho last salo a week ago, support was firmer than it has been for several days. Broken Hill Proprietary gained further ground in two sales, and other Australian issues also showed improvement. Oilers for G. J. Coles advanced by ;3il, but later in the day vcro -withdrawn. Woolworths (Sydney) advanced another 2d on sale, and Macky Logans gained 6d, compared with tiio last salo 111 February.
