OUTSTANDING FEATURE

BATTING. OF V. SCOTT : v CLUB AND REPRESENTATIVE * AUCKLAND'S PLUNKET SHIELD The phenomenal .success of V. Scott with the bat for Y.M.C.A. was an outstanding feature of the season. Scott headed both the club and representative averages. His club average was •111.20 in 13 innings, three not outs, highest score 208; total runs, 1112. His representatives figures were: —Three innings, one n6t out, highest score, 122, runs-207, average, 103.50. Scott was not chosen for the first Plunket Shield match against' Otago. Auckland was successful in winning the Plunket Shield, a trophy it held the previous season. This is the lltb occasion on which Auckland has won the shield. After two easy outright victories over Otrfgo and Canterbury Auckland travelled to Wellington for the final match at the Basin Reserve and lost on the first innings and almost outright. A severe loss to the province was the absence of the fine all rounder H. G. Vivian, who had to stand down owing to an injury. The display of the Auckland team in Wellington was disappointing. Although the wicket at the Basin Reserve is sometimes tricky toward the end of the season it was obvious that Auckland does not possess many batsmen who can make runs under such conditions.
