CENTENNIAL VISITORS

ACCOMMODATION NEEDS MEETING THE SITUATION PLANS BEFORE GOVERNMENT The provision of sufficient accommodation for the large influx of visitors expected for New Zealand's centennial celebrations in 1940 was emphasised by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, yesterday. The question of having adequate residential accommodation was recognised by the Government as a problem and its settlement, he said, was considered of major importance. "The question of accommodation in the different centres for centennial visitors," said Mr. Parry, "was among the first on a long schedule of requirements to come up prominently when the initial plans for th€> celebrations were being considered.

"With the lack of housing for the people already pressing heavily upon it, the Government could noli keep out of mind, in the efforts made to overcome it, the additional provision necessary for centennial visitors. Plans along right lines are being reviewed and the best methods of meeting the situation will be chosen. Our visitors will be well looked after; that is an all-important matter."
