WOUNDED SEA ELEPHANT

VISIT TO DUNEDIN BEACH [bv telegraph—own correspondent] pUN EDIX, Monday A large sea elephant was a visitor to St. Kilda to-day. After lying in the sun for most of the day it disappeared into the sea again shortly after sunset The creature first emerged from the water about 11.10 a.m., appearing through the surf close to where the proprietor of a private hotel at St. Kilda was taking his baby son for ;» paddle. It was bleeding at the mouth and had nine wounds on its body. It was obv oiisly in pain and went slowly up the dr\ sand to lie ill the sun. During the day the sea elephant was a centre o! attraction for hundreds of children and adults. It was ltift. overall and was about 12ft. in girth. In the late afternoon it showed definite signs of reviving and at 6.45 p.m. ii turned seaward again.
