FATAL ACCIDENT

CAR STRIKES POWER POLE PASSENGER DIES IN HOSPITAL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] IXVEKCAKGILL, Monday A linesman employed at the Otautau Post Office, Mr. John Wilfred Hayes, aged :J4. died in the Kiverton Hospital this afternoon from injuries suffered in a motor accident near Waihoaka about 8.30 p.m. on Sunday evening. A motor-car driven by Mr. Clarence Hibbs, aged .'?4, of Otautau, left the Tuataperfi Road at Ford's Hill, near Waihoaka, and crashed into an electricpower pole. The driver's wife, Mrs. Phyllis Hibbs, was in the front seat and Mr. Hayes was in the back seat. Mr. Hayes was tiling out of the car and was found some 15 or 20 yards away. He suffered a fractured spine. Mrs. Hibbs suffered a fracture of the left leg and a dislocation of the right log. With Mr. Hibbs. who was suffering from abrasions and shock, she was removed to the Riverton Hospital.
