"GUIDE FOR EASTER HOLIDAYS" Record; crowd* are expected in Auckland during the Eaiiter holidays, while special attractions organised in centres throughout the province will also be well patronised. Holiday-makers will be well catered for, a great variety of indoor and outdoor sporting fixtures having teen arranaed ELLERSLIE RACING CARNIVAL Great interest will centre on the Auckland Racing Club's Easter meeting at Ellerslie, where on Saturday the main events will be the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, the Great Northern Oaks and the Easter Handicap. On Easter Monday the principal races are the Great Northern St. Leger and the H. O. Nolan Handicap. Strong fields are en ß®B e d for all events t.nd thrilling racing is anticipated. NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT For the first time in five years the New Zealand University Tournament will be held in Auckland, the event extending over three days and concluding with the Tournament Ball in the Town Hall, on Tuesday night. A wide range of sports will be engaged in by the students, including athletics at the Auckland Domain, shooting at the Penrose rifle range, and boxing at the Town Hall. WRESTLING AT TOWN HALL One of the outstanding'events for Easter Monday will be a professional wrestling contest in the Town Hall between "Lofty" Blomfield, of Auckland, and Abe Yourist, of America. Blomfield will reach Auckland by the Mariposa on Thursday, after completing a successful tour of the United States and Canada, where he was undefeated in 52 bouts. This record includes a hard-fought draw with the world's champion heavy-weight wrestler, "Bronco" Nagurski. Yourist is also a wrestler of thu first rank. LEAGUE FOOTBALL MATCHES League football has a strong following in Auckland, and local and visiting enthusiasts will be treated to a fine exhibition of ihe code at Carlaw Park on Easter Saturday, when Ponsonby and Richmond will meet in a game which should have considerable bearing on the outcome of the championship competition. In addition to the main game, three other matches will be contested. RUGBY AT DEVONPORT. Rugby footballers and followers of the sport will have a day out at the Devonport Domain on Saturday afternoon, when a seven-a-uide tournament will be held. Players in all grades will be competing and fast and spectacular play is anticipated. The programme includes a 100 yards footballers championship, a relay race for teams of four t- and a burlesque football match. NORTH SHORE BEACHES Visitors to the city as well as local holiday-makers will be present in large numbers at the North Shore beaches, where morning tides will be the rule during the holiday period. Even when the tide is out, however an enjoyable swim will be available at the Milford swimming pool. At night dance carnivals will be held in the Pirate Shippe Cabaret on Milford beach, whe re a fi rgt -class orchestra and faultless floor arrangements will provide ideal conditions for dancing. BANDS CONTEST AT THAMES The South Auckland Brass Bands' Association will hold a bands contest at Thames on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday. In the afternoon the competitions will be staged at Rhodes Park and in the evenings m St. James Hall. Bands from many provincial centres will be competing the programme including a wide range of events ' COUNTRY SPORTS MEETINGS Sports meetings are to be held at Easter at Otorohanga and Te Kuiti. Professional athletes will be seen in action at Otorohanga on both Saturday and Monday, the prize money at stake totalling £750. G, R. Giles, the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games cyclist, will make his professional debut, competing against four noted Australian exponents of the «port. Highland dancing competitions, running and wood-chopping events also will be contested. At Te Kuiti many of the best-known amateur athletes will be taking part in the meeting on Easter Saturday. These include S. Lay, M. C. Baker, S. J. Wade and H. K. Brainsby, A Hamilton-Te Kuiti cycle race has been arranged and will finish at Te Kuiti about: noon. SPECIAL RAILWAY ARRANGEMENTS Holiday-makers at Easter will be well catered for by the Railways Department. In conjunction with the Ellerslie races, excursions have been arranged from Frankton, Waiuku, Maungaturoto and Helensville. Trains will also run frequently from suburban stations to Ellerslie, Services from many centres throughout South Auckland will run to Thames for the bands' contests, to Opua from Whangarei on a special holiday excursion, and from Frankton and Taumarunui to the meetings at Otorohanga and Te Kuiti.
