WAY TO WORLD PEACE

ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION UNITED STATES* EXAMPLE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Saturday A statement that peace through economic measures was the foreign relations policy of the United States today, was made by Mr. Lowell C. Pinkerton, United States Consul-General for New Zealand, at Palmerston North yesterday when speaking on trade relations.

"Treat the commerce of other countries as you would have them treat yours," he universally followed to-day, the struggle for special advantages would be ended, and along with it would be ended the military conquest of markets and supplies of raw materials. " I think I am right in saying that the trade restrictions which have been resorted to in an attempt to solve the economic and financial problems of individual countries have aggravated, rather than improved, the situation of those ivery countries, and have reacted harmfully on the world. Trade destruction has been the inevitable result.

" The United States, with its trade agreements programme, is taking positive action toward a freer exchange of goods," said Mr. Pinkerton. "Its efforts are based on the principle of fair and equitable treatment, and we trust that we are leading the way to commercial peace and a new era of prosperity."
