VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB general handicaps SUCCESS OF WAIALAE The Victoria Cruising Club held a er ies of general handicaps on Saturj Y afternoon, starting and finishing # the Western Reclamation. RAE CUP CONTEST The Rae Cup contest for 18ft. and 16ft. Ji. broueht out 10 competitors. Sonoma crossed the line j ust ahead of Riptide. AnnSttf and Maliana, with Irma. Paroro. Memuto and Mamaru and the others near by. Sonoma was still in charge passing Stanley Bay Wharf, and close on her stern came Mahana, Vaalele, Surprise. Irina, Riptide, Annette and Memutu. Limerick. ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON RACES FOR M CLASS Two races for class M were held by the Boyal New Zealand Yacht Sauadron on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off King's Wharf. The first race was won by Mr. J. C. Frankham's Manaia, which defeated Maranita (Mr. R. Ross) by the narrow margin ofj. three seconds on corrected tunes. The winner of the second race was Mawhitijtowned by Messrs. Thorpe Brothers. Both events were sailed in a light breeze, varying rfrom south to south-east, The first race was originally set down for decision, on February 10 and deferred to allow the boats to take part in the Royal Akurana 1 , Yacht Club's regatta. MANUKAU YACHT CLUB DUFF BANNER CONTEST A light southerly breeze prevailed for the harbour race of the Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club, in which the boatß were started on the Mark Foy system, the handicaps being given at the start. Tainaki, the limit boat, was sent away at 2.30 p.m.. followed by Valeta, Sunbeam; Aloma. Opah, Wixie M., Perseus, Atalanta and Mere. On completion of the first round. Sunbeam had assumed the lead by 2m from Opah, with the rest of the fleet closing up. On the Becond round, Atalanta, sailing well, gradually overhauled the rest of the fleet, and at the bottom mark, off Waikowhai, was second to Opah, which had displaced Sunbeam in the lead. On the last leg to the finish, Atalanta headed Opah, to win by 30s. Sunbeam and Perseus fought out third position, the former crossing the line 3s ahead. The final of the Duff Banner contest was sailed at the Conclusion of the general handicap. This contest, which is for the senior members of the club, is sailed in the 12ft Oin. boats and. has produced some good racing over a number of week-ends. Messrs. W. Qnigley and D. McLeod won for the second year in succession. Mr. Quigley is 78 years of age. and his clever handling of the boat over the closing stages of the race in the light air was a great effort.
