GOLF CONTESTS

CLUB COMPETITIONS IMPROVED CONDITIONS FIRST ROUND OF BALLIN CUP There was a decided improvement in conditions for golf during the weekend, when competitions were held by the various local clubs. The first round of the Ballin Cup was played at Titirangi and the majority of the matches were evenly contested. H. D Brinsden and J. H. Young each won his game, but two other low markers, W. J. Davidge and H. L. Robson, were eliminated. Three matches finished on the last green, while C. Galloway and It: W. Christensen played four extra holes before the former won.

A Stableford bogey competition at Middleinore resulted in a tie between K. M. Wilson and S. J. Robinson, Wilson winning on the count-back. The scoring was good in a medal handicap at Maungakiekie, where J. Tanner was successful in the A grade and T. Mitchell led the juniors. In the first medal match of the season at North Shore, J. D. Bull won the senior division after tieing with L. Harrison, while A. E. Browne and H. C. Stevens also scored well. Low net scores were general in the B grade, which was won by A. S. Chambers. The first round for the Mingay Cup and the qualifying round for the Bell Cup was played at Pupuke. A medal match held in conjunction was won by H. Probert.

A card of 4 up enabled C. D'Authreau and J. A. S. Keys to win a four-ball at Glendowie and P. Roach was successful in a Stableford competition at Waitemata. A similar competition at Orakei was won by H. Cameron, L. llepper being the successful junior. MEMORIAL CUP SCORING AT AKARANA The fust round of the Tjler Memorial Cup and the senior and junior monthly medal competitions were played by members of the Aknrana Golf Club, when the scoring was belter, due to the wonderful improvement in the greens caused by tne rain. Ngaruawahia. Mangatawhiri, Waiterimu and St. Andrews (Hamilton) Clubs. After welcoming the visitors the president, Mr. C. Sampson, called upon the ladies' captain. Mrs. W. Hewitt, to drive the first ball. Foursomes were played during: the afternoon for a club trophy, the winners being Mrs. Storey and Storey, who returned a card of 61, 27—31 ove* 12 holes. Remuera and Waiukn Clubs were represented. Canadian mixed foursomes were played, the winners being H. Ilimpon and Miss F.
