RELIANCE DUE TO-DAY

VOYAGING ROUND WORLD MEMORABLE WEEK BEGINS TONNAGE RECORD PROBABLE Beginning a memorable week in Auckland's shipping history, the Ham-burg-Amerika cruise liner Reliance will arrive this morning from Melbourne in the course ol' a world voyage. She will receive pratique in the stream and will berth at Western

Wharf about 7..'50 a.m. One of the most popular of the world cruise ships, the Reliance will add a distinctive note to waterfront activity, being the first German passenger liner to visit the port.

Commanded by Captain H. Ivieff, the Reliance is a sleek white steamer and her trim beauty will make a happy comparison with the great size of the Empress of Britain when she arrives to-morrow. The German vessel, of 20,000 tons gross, has three yellow funnels, topped by the HamburgAmerika band of black, white and red. She is specially designed for tropical voyages and equipped with a modern system of ventilation. Some Novel Features

The Reliance boasts a swimming pool with a roof which can be rolled back to admit the sun and fresh tropical breezes. Deck sports of all kinds, a bowling alley, and gymnasiums for men and women aro a few of the devices which keep passengers entertained. A golf professional is also carried to help golfers to improve their game. A barber's shop, beauty parlour, laundry, valet and tailor service, a daily newspaper and a florist's shop, are among the facilities which enable life on the world cruise to be lived in the modern manner. Passenger accommodation, spread over five decks, has a simple elegance.

An interesting feature of the liner is the Grill Garden, where it is possible to choose from a menu Swedish, Russian, French and even Malayan food. A verandah cafe gives n happy atmosphere of the boulevards of Paris. The Reliance is famous for its cuisine, with an enviable reputation for fine German cooking. Other Notable Arrivals The Reliance's stay of four days at Auckland is the third longest of any 011 her voyage. She will remain here until Thursday, when she will leave for Wellington. A feature of the week's working will be the arrival of two ships on their maiden voyages. Both ships have been built for the M.A.N.Z. Line's cargo service between Eastern Canada and Australia and New Zealand. The first, the motor-ship Port Saint John, arrived late last night from Halifax, and the Kaipara is expected to-morrow from New York. Incoming ships include vessels of many nationalities.
