"NAVY BLUE AND GOLD" Telling a story that has been acclaimed the most authentic over written about the historic United States Naval Academy, "Navy Blue and Gold" commenced a season at the Majestic Theatre yesterday, Robert Young, James Stewart, Lionel Barrymoro and Florence Bice are the leading players, being ably supported by Billie Burke and Tom Brown. "Navy Blue and Gold," taken from George Bruce's novel, presents three young men from different stations of life, who are drawn together at the academy, both on the football field and as room-mates. Robert Young, as a cynical young midshipman, unquestionably gives one of his finest performances, .lames Stewart, in the role of an oiler-up from a battleship to try for his commission at tho academy, adds to his stature as an artist of. the screen. Bnrrymore lives up to his very high reputation, his handling of the role of the veteran football coach of the academy team being excellent, while Miss Bice, who provides the romantic interest of tho film, is seen < at her best. Sam Wood directed this first-class entertainment for Metro-Goldwvn-Mayer. The second attraction on the programme is the fast-moving story of the race-track, "Gentleman from Louisiana," with Eddie Quinlan and Charles "Chic" Sale prominently featured.
