CHRISTCHURCH SALE CROSSBREDS SELL WELL 15JI) PAH) FOR HALFBKEDS MERINOS HARD TO QUIT [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN COHRESI'ONDKNT] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Values for all wools except Merinos were finn at the fourth and final Christchurch sale to-day. All except best halfbred qualities met an erratic market, but Merinos were particularly hard to sell and were from Id to ljd cheaper than they were at the sale on March 0. Crossbreds sold well throughout.

The offering was a typical end of season collection, consisting of a large proportion of high country clips, with crossbreds from the West Coast and Chatham Islands and hold-over wool and oddments. The quality was well up to the usual standard. Of the catalogue of 22/234 bales, all but 16 per cent was sold, and a good proportion of that passed was dealt with after the sale. The passings were mainly among the less attractive high country wools. More Restrained Request Good fine wools and all crossbreds sold steadily throughout. Pieces, which usually appeal so strongly to the Continent, while not neglected altogether, were in much more restrained request than at the three earlier sales. Best halfbreds and all but the shabbiest crossbreds were firm, but inferior fleece and pieces were from par to a shade lower.

Japanese competition was a strong influence in the market tor better halfbreds, where competition from 1* ranco and Germany was also strong. Bradford operated willingly on crossbrcds and local scourers wore able to lift a largo weight of neglected fine wools. Local mills were extremely quiet, partly because little wool of their typo was offered and partly because the}' are now mostly well supplied. On tho whole growers met the market well and there will be no embarrassing accumulation at the opening of tho new season. . The top prico for the salo was loid for hnlfbreds.
