depression approaching sfi || HEAVY RAIN IN FAR NORTH The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity has moved on to New Zealand,, the highest pressure being in the south. The depression from the Kermadee Islands is, however, moving southward and beginning to affect the Auckland Province. Pressure is very low over Eastern Australia. The forecast is for winds between south and cast, moderate to strong north of West port and Kaikoura and rising to gale force in parts of the far north and north-east, elsewhere light to moderate. Seas rough north of Fast Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising north of Farewell t.jpit ami Kaikoura. Eastern Tasnian Sea: Light to moderate east to north winds, gradually freshening somewhat; seas slight to moderate. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast in the Auckland Province and in places misty, with scattered rains. Some heavy falls are probable in the far north and north-east., but elsewhere mainly light. Temperatures still mild to warm. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST RAIN PROBABLE The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong southeast to easterly winds reaching gale force in some exposed positions. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast and with mist or fog in places and rain probable, with- possibly some heavy falls in tli3 far north. Temperatures still mild. Seas rough on the east coast and moderate to rather rough on the west coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine, sunny weather with a moderate wind from the south was experienced yesterday. The maximum temperature was 76 degrees and the minimum 65 degrees. Barometric pressure was steady and showed a rfsing tendency last night. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.001n, Midnignt Wednesday .. 30.051n, Wellington.—Brilliantly fine weather | with warm temperatures and little cloud prevailed.
