HEADMASTER LEAVES

FAREWELL AT ONEHUNGA SOUTHLAND APPOINTMENT After having been headmaster of the Onehunga district school for ike past 15 months, Mr. J. G. Gasparich left last night for Jnvercargill to take the position of inspector of schools under the Southland Education Board. Prior to his departure, Mr. Gasparich was tendered a public farewell at the school, at which the Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. John Park, expressed the regret of citizens at losing the services of Mr. Gasparich who, he said, had done good work on the local library committee. Representing the Auckland Education Board, Mr. C. R. Munro paid a warm tribute to the outstanding work Mr. Gasparich had performed during his 32 years' service with the board. Other speakers were the Rev. T. H. C. Partridge and Mr. L. J. Broomfield, the latter representing the teaching staff. In presenting Mr. Gasparich with a smoker's companion, Mr. J. Hitt, chairman of the school committee, thanked him for the keen interest he had displayed in the children's welfare.

Mr. and Mrs. Gasparich were also the guests at a farewell luncheon given by the teaching staff. They were presented with a travelling rug by the assistant headmaster, Mr. L. J. Broomfield, who expressed regret at the loss of Mr. Gasparich's leadership and guidance. Mr. Gasparich commenced his teaching career at Te Kopuru in 1906, and was afterward transferred to Hunua, Putaruru, Papakura, Stanley Bay and Ellerslie, being promoted to Onehunga in December, 1936. He is a past president of the Auckland Headmasters' Association. Mr. Gasparich has taken an active part in both cricket and football. He was a member of the University and Grafton Clubs, and an Auckland representative. Ho is also a past president of the Referees' Association. A member of the Main Body and a Gallipoli veteran, Mr. Gasparich has also been a member of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. Pending tile appointment of a successor, Mr. Broomfield will act as headmaster of the Onehunga school.
