SAFE BLOWN OPEN
£SO IN CASH TAKEN
BURGLARY AT RUNCIMAN THIEVES ENTER POST OFFICE [llY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORK KSPONDKNT] RUNCIMAN, Thursday A sum of £SO in hank notes and silver was stolen from the RuneinuSn Post Office early this morning, the safe being blown open with explosives. The burglars entered the post office by making a small hole near the catch of a ylass window, at the side of the building. Once inside, they forced the door of the office and blew open the safe. The contents of the cashbox were taken, but unstamped postal notes were not removed.
The explosion, which broke the front window, was not heard by anybody in the neighbourhood. Apparently, it was made to coincide with the passing of traffic on tho Great South Bond. The broken window was noticed by a boy about 7.15 this morning and ho reported it to Mr. T. Totty, the storekeeper, who informed tho police. Detective T. Sneddon is in charge of the investigations. It is thought that the fact that many radio licences aro paid at tho end of March may have had something to do with the burglary. The Buncinian Post Office was entered about 15 years ago, the safe being blown open on that occasion.
