INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Otorohanga.—The first birthday anniversary of the institute was celebrated recently in the local town hall. Mrs. A. A. Smith presided. Assisting with an entertainment programme were the Camp-fire Entertainers, Mrs. Chaffey. Miss Josephine McGettigan, Mrs. Cockburn, Mrs. Pye, Miss Peggy Reynolds, Miss R. Docherty, and a troupe of Te Kuiti entertainers. The birthday cake, made by Mrs. Cockburn, was presented for afternoon tea. Hangatiki.—There was a large attendants at a meeting of the Hangatiki Maori Women's Institute, over which Mrs. Bidwell presided. An interesting account of the recent Catholic Centenary celebrations in Auckland and in the North was given by the chairwoman. The election of officers resulted: —President, -Mrs. Bidwell; vicepresidents, Sister Olive and Mrs. Amolianga; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. W. Xiekora; executive, Mesdames Richard Ornisbv and T. Morgan. Points prizes were presented by Mrs. Bidwell to Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Rangi.

Te Kawa. —At the annual meeting of the institute. Mrs. Coverdale, the president, presented the points prize for the year to Mrs. Pivac and Miss McLean. The election of officers resulted: —President, Mrs. O. M. Coverdale; secretary, M iss Aklerson; treasurer, Mrs. A. Stewart; committee, Mesdames Plewman, H. W. Henderson, Broadbent, Ritchie, Bruce, J. McLean, C. McLean and J. Henderson.
