PUTARURU SHOW

SUCCESSFUL FIXTUKE GATE RECEIPTS DOUBLED FINE DISPLAY OF LIVESTOCK [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PUTARURU, Saturday The growing importance of the Putaruru district as a farming centre was well exemplified to-day when the Putaruru Agricultural and Pastoral Society's third annual show established new records in every respect. Entries of livestock totalled over 700, which compares favourably with other one-day shows in the Waikato. The gate receipts amounted to £152, which is practically double last year's figure. Entries of light horses and draught horses were described by the judges as equal to any they had seen at autumn shows. The champion hunter event was won by Magic Land, owned and ridden by Mr. A. Yarndley, of Te Awamutu, who also won the champion hunter event at the recent Morrinsville Show.

The wood-chopping events aroused great interest, attracting axemen from tho timber-milling districts of South Auckland. Several valuable cash prizes and trophies were competed for, including the New Zealand 2ft. double-handed chop, and the New Zealand 14in. sawing championship. The list of awards was as follows: CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS Champion Hack.—Mrs. F. F. Baker Champion Entire.—H. L. Pearson; reserve. E„ L. Robinson. Champion Draught Mare.—T. McLaughlin; reserve, S. G.
