The Misses M. King and B. Small, of Wellington, are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. J. Steele, of Titirangi, returned yesterday by the Awatea from Australia. Miss I. de Launay was a recent, visitor from Auckland to the Hermitage. Mount Cook.

Miss Marjorie Stewart, of Mount Albert, returned by the Awatea from, Wellington yesterday.

The Misses A. F. and W. L. MooreJones, of Remuera, were passengers by the Awatea, which left yesterday for Sydney. '

Mrs. S. J. Lavelle, of New Plymouth, is visiting Auckland and is the guest of Mrs. J. R. Self, Shelly Beach Road. Heme Bay.

Mrs. S. Austin Carr, Ranfurly Road, left on Monday for a motor tour of the South Island. She was accompanied , by her husband.

Mrs. A. Sloane (Delamcre, Cheshire), Mrs. D. T. Teurrisen (Java) and Mrs. V. Nightingale, Mrs. N. Badies and Mrs. C. H. Turner (Rotorua) are at the Station Hotel.

At a meeting of the Cheerio Club this week, over which Mrs. Mann presided, each member gave an item, and a competition was held. Mrs. Collier read the thought for the month. Afternoon tea brought a pleasant meeting to a close.

Miss J. C. Oliver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Oliver, of Waipukuran. who has been on the nursing staff of the district hospital, left this week en route for Apia, Western Samoa, as "ft nursing sister, having been appointedto this position by the New Zealand Government.

Overseas guests who have been visiting Mount Cook and wtho stayed at the Hermitage include the English public school boys who are making a tour of New Zealand, Sir Arthur and Lady Grant, of Scotland, and visitors from Honolulu, Sorith Australia, Victoria, England, and various parts of the Dominion.

Miss A. W. Whitelaw, formerly headmistress of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School and of Wycombe Abbev School, Buckinghamshire, England, and latterly head of Talbot Settlement, Camberwell, returned to Auckland on Monday by the Aorangi. Miss Whitelaw is with her sisters at Arney Road, Remuera, and probably will be in New Zealand for a long visit.

Miss Ida Moore, formerly of Herne Bay, Auckland, who is at present in Sydney, has obtained an appointment as violinist on the Malaita, which sails from Sydney to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Miss Moore has signed on for three voyages, each of which takes five weeks, and in addition to her > work as violinist she will also act as sports and entertainment hostess.
