SETTLEMENT SCHEME SUCCESS OF OPERATIONS [BY TEIjKGRAI'H—OWN COHRKSPONDKXT] HAMILTON, Friday A statement that the Maori settlement scheme administered by the Board of Native Affairs or. similar lines to the small farms scheme had been ; ,a pronounced success was made by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, in an interview to-night. He said he considered that the results had fully justified expectations. v * Throughout the Dominion, he said, there were 1482 holdings, representing a total of 705,533 acres, of which 177,482 acres were developed. For the 1936-37 season, 3,373,6001b. of buttcri'at and 587,1901b. of wool were produced. There were 26,335 cows milked. 14,068 other dairy cattle, 9833 run cattle and 93,842 sheep. Mr. Langstone mentioned that some of the Maoris were making exceedingly good progress in developing the land and were also proving excellent farmers.
