STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE lack of confidence • 'r ■" _ Although almost every transaction made on the Auckland Stock Exchange Yesterday was at !l decline, the general Lno was a shade stronger after the nervousness exhibited nt the close of the previous day. The market was still (lull, however, and a marked lack of confidence was reflected in a poor turnhanks remained dull and payers were absent for every issue. New Zealands and Nationals of New Zealand were well supported. Insurances were still weak, with the exception of Nationals. Auckland Gas shares sold actively, but both the ordinary and contributing issues were easier. Little dealing took place iu industrials. G. .1. Coles dropped back sharply, losing the nrouinl recovered earlier in the week. Metals opened poorly, and a parcel of Broken Hill Prorietary changed hands at lower rates. Other issues met with limited support. Dominion industrials were quiet, the only feature being a marked drop in New Zealand Newspapers.
