MAORI AQUATIC CARNIVAL TO-DAY'S LARGE PROGRAMME Rowing races, Maori canoe events, poi dances and hakas comprise the programme to-day at Ngaruawaliia when ''the annual regatta and river carnival will be held. More than 18,000 people attended last year and it is expected that the,,numbers this year will be considerably greater. Although rowing events will take pride of place - one of the chief attractions will be the " canoe events and Maori poi dances, which have attracted a record number of entrants. Four canon hurdle races will be decided, whilo the "Chase for the bride" should again prove highly'' entertaining. Teams from Rotorua, Tauranga and .North Auckland will take part ip poi and haka exhibitions. - The New Zealand piping championship is part of the Carnival and the North Island ,'Eigbland sword dancing, nhich will also be decided, has-attracted ranch interest.
