PLASTIC SURGERY
LEADING AMERICAN DOCTOR BRIEF AUCKLAND VISIT A leading United States plastic surgeon, Dr. H. L. Updegraff, of Hollywood, California, passed through Auckland yesterday by the Monterey on his way to Sydney. Dr. Updegraff will be a guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Sydney next week and will also act as a representative of the United States Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. .Updegraff is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Pan-Pacific Surgical Association. He is senior surgeon in the plastic department of the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Hollywood, and head of the plastic surgery staff at the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. In addition, he is commanding-officer, with the rank of lieutenant-commander, of the plastic surgery unit of the United States Navy. This unit, which was formed three years ago and is the first of its kind in the world, can be assembled at short notice to meet any emergency that might arise. During the Pan-Pacific Surgical Congress at Honolulu in 1936, Dr. Updegraff was a prominent figure.
On his arrival yesterday he was welcomed and entertained by members of the medical profession in Auckland. When passing through Auckland on his return to the United States at an early date ho will give an illustrated address on plastic surgery to members of the medical profession and their friends.
