LIVELY MEETING

FREEDOM ASSOCIATION PROFESSOR ALGIE AT OTAHUHU Several lively interludes marked tho address given at the Otahuhu Public Hall last night by Professor 11. M. Algie, organiser of the Auckland Provincial Freedom Association, to an audience of about 250. Tho Mayor of Otahuhu, Mr. C. P. Petrie, M.P. for Hauraki, presided. Early in Professor Algie's address interjections came from a man seated in the front row. He continued with frequent remarks, and the chairman had to make several appeals for order when others at the back of the hall attempted to silence the interrupter. At one stage he harangued the audience at length amid a hub-bub of voices. The man left the meeting before the close and Professor Algie was able to complete his address without any further difficulty. Professor Algie referred to tho various Acts passed by the Labour Government, which he claimed had taken much of the community's liberty to piaco it in the hands of Ministerial discretion. Quoting from published remits to be dealt with at the Labour Party conference next month, ho said they tended to the objective of tho socialisation of industry. Voices: What's wrong with that? Further statements were interrupted by a voice calling: What are you wanting:' A Fascist dictatorship? After reviewing the effects of recent legislation, Professor Algie said flic logical step after the guaranteed price was the socialisation of the land. " 1 am satisfied that the British outlook does not see a solution of our problems either in socialism or Fascism," be concluded. " I feel that the majority of people are looking for the middle way.'
