CIVIC THEATRE Filmed entirely in technicolour, the United Artists' release " Nothing Sacred" will continue its successful season to-day at the Civic Theatre. Tho picture, which was produced by David 0. Selznick, is an entertaining comedy concerning a New York journalist's costly publicity scheme, which involves a country girl, supposed to be a victim of radium poisoning. The main players are Fredric March and Carole Lombard, and tho strong supporting cast includes Charles Wiuningcr and Walter Connelly. REGENT THEATRiS Bing Crosby scores another success by his singing and acting in the Paramount film "Double or Nothing," which will continue its season at the Regent Theatre to-day. As one of several persons who, by _ a clause in the will of an eccentric millionaire, are set the task of doubling a certain sum of money in a fixed time, Crosby opens a dance hall, but his efforts to win the legacy are hampered by the relatives of the dead man. Others ip the cast are Andy Devine, Martha Raye and Mary Carlisle. An excellent supporting programme will be shown in conjunction, while the boy soprano Joseph Lyons will also appea.r on the stage. ST. JAMES' THEATRE The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer screen adaptation of tho play by John van Druten, "Parnell" will bo shown again to-day at St. James' Theatre. The picture is of an historical type, and is based 011 the life and romance of the Irish patriot, Charles Stewart Parnell, who fought to unito the nation and to secure for it home rule. Clark Gable gives one of his finest characterisations in tho title role, and he is supported by Myrna Loy. as Kitty O'Sliea, with whom Parnell falls in love and in connection with whose divorce he is cited as co-respondent. Edna May Oliver, Edmund Gwenn and Billie Burke also appear in the Htm.

The beautiful actress Madeleine Carroll is prominently cast as the trustee of the estate of a multi-millionaire | and Francis Lederer takes the part of the temporarily disinherited heir. His fear that Linda Grey (Madeleine Carroll), who is apparently ostentatiously squandering the inheritance in a riot of luxurious living, will havo nothing ; left to hand over to him when the time comes, and his attempts to curb her extravagance by becoming her private secretary, form the main theme I of an intensely amusipp, film. TIVOLI THEATRE An attractive programme will be presented at the Tivoli Theatre to-nteht. when guest-night concessions will bo available to patrons. The first fulllength film. "To Beat the Band." has Helen Broderick and Hugh Herbert prominently cast, the second feature being a powerful drama entitled "High Tension." In this film Brian. Donlevy . gives a capable characterisation. The i supporting programme comprises an ■ amusing comedy "Happy the Married," | a two-reel comedy and an entertainine travelogue.

STRAND THEATRE A film describing the life of one of England's greatest Queens, "Victoria the Great" will be screened at the Strand Theatre to-day. Anna Neag;le in the leading role is seep at her best and succeeds in giving a convincing interpretation of every stage of the Queen's life. The part of Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha is played by Anton Walbrook. That portion of the film dealing with the diamond jubilee is photographed in technicolour. MAYFAIR THEATRE Two full-length films, "Life of the Party" and 'Tight for Your Lady," comprise the programme to be shown at the Mayfair Theatre , to'-day r- Gene Raymond and Harriet Hilliard appear in the leading roles in the first picture. and Jack Oakie, John Boles and Ida Lupi.no head the cast in the second feature. • i PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE The entertaining child actress Virginia Weidler takes a leading i-n "Girl of the Ozarks," which together with "Forgotten Faces" is being screened at the Prince Edward Theatre to-day. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO A grim drama of the Southern States of America, "They Won't Forget," is the chief film on the programme at the Crystal Palace and Rialto Theatres tonight. STATE THEATRE, ONEHUNGA An amusing and original comedy entitled "Oh, Mr. Porter" will be offered to patrons of the State Theatre, Ouehunga, to-night, together with a pi'ogrammo of well-chosen short features. STATE THEATRE v Walter Wanger's beautiful technicolour production "Vogues of 1938" heads the current programme at the State Theatre. To be shown in conjunction is "The Singing Marine," in which Dick Powell appears. STAR CINEMA "Lloyds of London," with Tyrone Power taking a leading role, is the main picture on the programme at the Star Cinema at present. The second attraction is "Angel's Holiday." TUDOR CINEMA Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers take the leading roles in the bright musical production "Shall We Dance," the main feature on the programme at the Tudor Cinema to-day. BRITANNIA THEATRE "On the Avenue," with the three Hitz Brothers and Alice Faye in the leading roles, will be shown to-day at the Britannia Theatre, a second attraction being "Outlaws of the Orient." BERKELEY THEATRE Errol Flynn gives a dashing characterisation in "Captain Blood," the main attraction on the current programme at the Berkeley Theatre.,
