Friday Conditions for track work at Woodvillo yesterday were perfect, the morning being delightfully fine and calm, and the course proper, with the trestles about 12ft. out, in excellent order. Chief interest was centred in the performances of Courtcraft, Francis Drake and Relative. Courtcraft was given n working gallop over a mile and a-quarter, Francis Drake sprinted half a mile, and Relative was sent five furlongs. Relative (N. Cavaney) ran her first two furlongs in 255, and, after shaving the trestle into the homo stretch, she completed in 1.4, the.'last three in 395. She galloped attractively,. and should give a good account of herself at her next start. Francis Drake (B. Cosford) went well when running four furlongs in 495, the last three in 36 2-ss. Ho is very well. Courtcraft, who looks improved after his trip to Te Arolia, strode over u mile and a-quarter, going nicely over the last mile in 1.46 4-5, and the last i half-mile in 545. Courtcraft is in great j order for tho St. Leger. j It is the intention of Mr. W. S. j Gaisford to take Courtcraft to Sydney | after the Wellington meeting. Court- I craft has been entered for tho Awapuni Gold Cup, but, if he is to travel j on tho Awatea, it seems scarcely likely j that he will race at the Manawafcu J meeting. Golden Ridgo (Cavaney) and Son I and Hoir (M. Tracey) were companions j over five furlongs, and they were to- j gethcr until within a furlong of the , post, when Son and Heir drew ar.ay j to win by a couple of lengths in j 1.3 4-5. However, Golden Ridgo was ] going very easily at tho finish. Shining Hours was out doing paco i work, and has put on some condition 1 since sho left Awapuni. Aiwai, who looks well, is working usefully. She had a race at Bulls Inst Saturday, but her chances were not improved when sho was checked about throe furlongs from home. Homily is still on the easy list. Coronation, who was put out of action through a cold he contracted at Christmas time, is back in work. Hnzoor (M. Gilmorp), who is to start nt Carterton, and was unlucky not to lmvti returned a dividend in his first race over hurdles Inst. Saturday, was galloped seven furlongs on tho plough yesterday, and finished well to cover the last fivo out in 1.5. Ho will be ridden at Carterton by S. Wilson. C. McGovern, who was injured when Kio fell with him at the Rangitikei meeting, and was taken to tho Palmerston North Hospital, returned to his home in Woodvillo on Wednesday, but lie is likely to be laid up for n considerable period. H. E. Russell announces that Mala will not race at the Sydney Faster oarnival. Mala had been doing satisfactory work, but a couple of weeks ago a leg filled slightly,, and Mala has been on the easy list since. N. Cavaney has been engaged to Lord Quick and llion at Carterton.
