LONDON ARCHITECTURE

INFLUENCE ON FUTURE NEW ZEALANDERS MENTIONED [from Oirß OWN correspondent] LONDON, Feb. 19 A list of the men whom he considered would be the creators of the future- Londott-—men whose work was showing the direction architecture would take in the metropolis—was given recently by Mr. John Gloag, an authority on architecture, in the Evening News. The list included two New Zealanders, Mr. A. D. /'Connell and Mr. B. R. Ward. Of them he said: "They are partners. They have the same sense of humour, the same profound knowledge of all - sorts and conditions of people, for they have knocked about the world and bring to their profession a richer variety of experience than most architects acquire. Their /work is fresh, unusual, and gets talked about. They have courage, and can persuade their clients to accept originality." Mr. Connell is from Taranaki and Mr. Ward from Wellington. After studying in New Zealand, they proceeded to London University to further their / architectural training. From there both won scholarships" which took them to Homo for further study. ]\lr. Ward is a member of the Council of the Royal Institute of British Architects. As a firm Connell, Ward and Lucas (the third member of the partnership is a Londoner), have specialised in reinforced concrete for both private and public buildings.
