PRICES AT SMITHFIELD LAMBS EASE SLIGHTLY WEATHER AFFECTS DEMAND Some descriptions of lambs have eased slightly on the Smithfield mar- ] ket. The demand is rather quiet, 1 owing to exceptionally warm weather, I according to the weekly report of the i Now Zealand Meat Producers' Board. < On the mutton market, wethers are < steady owing to light spot stocks. < Ewes tend to be easier, with 11 poor 1 demand. Frozen beef is firm, with a ! better demand, while chilled beef is easier owing to warm weather affect- . ing the demand. Heavy-weight New Zealand porker ' pigs are quiet and unchanged. Others ' arc easier with slow trade. Baconer j pigs are steady and unchanged. MINING NEWS MARTHA OPERATIONS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WAIHI, Friday The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi) Limited: — No. 4 Level.—On the vein at 115 ft. in the Lovett south-east crosscut have driven west. The next 3Sft. is ore of good grade varying from 13 to 21in. wide. No. 6 Level. —North branch Martha lode: A rise is being put up at 160 ft. west of the Espir crosscut and the first 29ft. assays 34s Gd per ton. The width of the lode is about 4ft. The crosscut to the north at 600 ft. west of the Giddens crosscut was stopped at 137 ft. and have now commenced to drive on u vein at 36ft. in. No. 7 Level.—West section of Edward lode. The crosscut to the north-west has holed to former workings and we are now preparing to sink a winze. FIJI PRODUCTION SUVA, March XI Fine gold produced by the Emperor mine to January was 33,07107.. in three years. With the new mills at Emperor and Loloma, it is expected to produce this quantity in less than one year. WHEAT, FLOUR AND SUGAR LONDON, March 10 j Wheat.—Cargoes are easier, and parcels are quiet.
