LOAN OF £BOOO WANTED
OPOTIKI BOROUGH COUNCIL BOARD DECLINES APPLICATION [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] I OPOTIKI, Thursday An application by the Opotiki Borough Council to borrow £BOOO for the erection of a combined town hall, municipal chambers and Plunket and rest room has been declined by the Local Bodies Loans Board, according to advice received by the council at its meeting. The grounds for the rejection were that the loan did not appear to be warranted. Mr. T. G. Johnson said the council should write and ask for the reasons against the proposal. Mr. S. Shalfoon replied that some of the council had objected and also a largely-signed petition had been presented against the proposal. A resolution was adopted asking tho Loans Board for definite reasons as to why the application had been refused. Later Mr. Shalfoon gave notice .of his intention to move at tho next meeting of the council that the resolutions on the borough minute book' relating to the municipal buildings be repealed and that the council co-operate with the Opotiki County Council in building a ladies' rest room and Plunket room,, and that the council consider the purchase of a suitable site and that con-
sideration be given to the preparation of plans and specifications for a municipal hall suitable for borough purposes at an approximate cost of £2OOO.
