RAILWAY FINANCES £34,641 INCREASE SHOWN PERIOD TO FEBRUARY 5 £154,046 FALL IN 44 WEEKS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT]) WELLINGTON, Thursday

A net revenue of £108,232, or £-'34,641 more than for the corresponding period last year, is shown by tho railway working account for the fourweekly period ended February 5, an abstract of which was published in tho Gazette* to-night. This year's return contains a smaller quota of the New Year holiday traffic than did that of last year. Tho gross revenuo was £745,256, an increase of £118,417. Expenditure was £637,024, or £83,776 higher.

Operating rpvenuo in the North Island was £408717, which is £66,788 more than in the corresponding period last year. Expenses amounted to £342,579, or £48,273 higher. Net earnings increased by £18,515 to £66,138.

In the South Island receipts were £243,656 and expenses £233,728, increases of £31,176 and £21,321 respectively. Net earnings at £9928 were £9855 higher. Net revenue from miscellaneous services was an increase of £6271. The gross revenue was £92,883 and the expenditure £60,717. Revenue lor the 44 weeks from April 1 to February 5 was £7,095,936, an increase of £866,857 on the iigure for the corresponding portion of last year. Expenses, totalling £6,667,783, were £1.020,903 higher. Net revenue at £428.153 decreased by £154,046?
