GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS [FROM OIR OWN COHRKSI'ONDKNT] SYDNKY. March I /t is expected that tenders will he called in .May for the erection of the main administrative building at Canberra. It will take nearly three years to build and will cost £'750.000. Foundations hare already been laid. The completion of this five-storev building will enable the transfer <>f the Defence Department and the central staffs of jtlie Postmaster-General, both of which are still in Melbourne, because there is no office space available at Canberra. Kxisting secretariats at are overcrowded and for some past the Government has been torrel to make minor additions to all buildings in order to provide accommodation for the Commonwealth's administrative machinery.
