ITALY AND SUEZ CANAL BRITAIN NOT APPROACHED British Wireless RUGBY, Feb. 28 The Prime Minister, Mr. Chamberlain, was questioned in the House of Commons to-day regarding the alleged claim by Italy to a share in the defence of the Suez Canal. He replied that he had not caused any search to be made in the Foreign Office archives prior to 1922, but since that year the British Government was not aware of any request by Italy for a share in the defence of the canal. Mr. Chamberlain added that an official statement issued in Rome yesterday had described the reports as to Italian claims regarding armed supervision of the canal as fantastic.
