DAMAGE TO APPLES

SUN SCORCH AND INSECTS LOSSES IN HAWKE'S BAY [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Tuesday Hawke's Bay orchardists will suffer severe losses of apples through sun scorch. It is stated that the fruit affected will be unsaleable. According to the estimates of the Government orchard instructor, Mr. X. J. Adamson, the loss is estimated in some cases at two bushels on each Sturmer tree. "All varieties are affected, but Sturmers seem to have suffered most," said Mr. Adamson. "Insect have been particularly active owing to the hot weather." An acute shortage of packers is reported and it will become worse when the season reaches its peak. Sufficient pickers are a\ailable.
