WELLINGTON RETURNS CONTINUED BUOYANCY [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Customs revenue collected at Wellington continues to ho very buoyant, substantial increases being recorded for all major items for February compared with February, 1937. The net Customs revenue for the expired 11 months of the financial year is £473,249 above that for the corresponding period of 1936-37, and £996,225 higher than in 1935-36. Sales tax is up by £220,218 over 1936-37, and by £421,970 over 1935-36. The net Customs revenue collected at Wellington last month totalled £262,071, compared with £242,850 in February, 1937, an increase of £19,221. For the 11 months of the financial year the revenue totalled £3,527,210, compared with £3,054,561 for the corresponding period 1936-37, an increase of £473,249.

The February collections with those for February, 1937, in parentheses, are:—Motor spirit duty, £72,120 (169,920); tyre tax, £lll9 (£1886); sales tax, £81,994 (£69,454); beer exeisej~£6649 (£6037). GHRISTOHURCH COLLECTIONS INCREASES IN MOST CLASSES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The Customs revenue for February in Christchurch totalled £150,795, against £137,801 last February. For the 11 months ended February 28 the revenue was £1,987,234, against £1,706,722 last year. Higher revenue has been received under almost every heading. Notable increases were recorded in the sales tax returns, which have increased from £27,713 in February, 1937, to £32,279 in February this year. Among other increases are general Customs, £85,154 this year, £79,905 last year, and petrol tax, £23,861 this year to £21,262 last year.
