NEW THEATRE PLANNED

PROPOSAL FOR HAMILTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE VIEWS [fkosi our own correspondent] HAMILTON*, Tuesday The erection of a new picture theatre in Hamilton was discussed by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night. It was decided that, while the chamber was in sympathy with the scheme, it considered tho matter should be held in abeyance until it was learned whether the Hamilton Borough Council intended to erect a town hall in the near future. The chairman, Mr. H. 1). Caro, said the Hamilton Borough Council was considering the erection of a new town hall to commemorate the Dominion centennial in 1940. If the project came to realisation, he considered a town hall to be a greater necessity than a new theatre. The borough council should be given an opportunity to declare its intention in the matter of a town hall and then, if nothing was to be done, a new theatre was desirable.
