DARGAVILLE SHIELD WHANGAREI COUNTY VICTORY [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday The Whangarei County cricket eleven were successful during the weekend in withstanding the third challenge for the Dargaville Shield, the senior cricket trophy in the North, when Bay of Islands County was defeated by nine wickets. Whangarei won the toss and sent the Bay in to bat. The innings produced 90 runs, Middleton 30, Gibbons 25 and Ph.vnn 1-', being the only double-figure scorers. Bowling for Whangarei, G. Drake took six wickets for Whangarei made 157 (Wilson 34, Masters 28, H. W. Wilson 'JO, Dunn 13 and J. Drake 31 not out). Sigley took six wickets for 45 and Middleton three for 51 bowling for the Bay. In their second innings, the Bay made 81 runs (Robinson -13) Masters look five for 21 arid Dunn four for 20. With 15 runs required to win, Whangarei gained these with the loss of one wicket. Senior B results were as follows: —High School, 00, defeated Maungatapere, 02. Piako lost four wickets for 15, but the innings closed for 81 Maniapoto, in the second innings scored 113 for eight, declared (Conn 19, Dinsdale IS McKenzie 29, Seccombe l.>. llebden lb not out).
