> STAFFS AND SALARIES STATEMENT BY MINISTER CONFERENCE VITH INSTITUTE [BY TELKCIttAt'H —PIIKHK ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday The Minister of Education, tho Hon. , P. Fraser, announced to-day that he > had been in consultation with represent ■ tatives of tho executive of tho New > Zealand Educational Institute on the • subject of staffing primary schools and • the salaries of primary school teachers. Mr. Fraser said tho discussion was of an exploratory character and a preliminary to further discussions, which would probably occupy somo considerable time. The representations of the institute would receive further consideration by himself and the Education Department, and ultimately tho matters involved would bo submitted to the Government. Tho Minister added that ho recognised the institute as the only organisation that could speak for all grades of primary school teachers, and ho proposed to confine his negotiations to that organisation. Any representations from the Headmasters Association, the Men Teachers' Guild or the Women. Teachers' Association should be forwarded through the institute, Full consideration would be given to every such representation or point of . view. "The question of tho grading of primary school teachers will be considered by a committee representative of the Education Department and the New Zealand Educational Institute," said the Minister.
