THE FUTURE OF IRELAND

Sir, —Ireland's future is worrying "Que Vive." Obviously "Que Vive" is an Englishman. The history of English rule in Ireland is a sorry record of ineptitude und blunders. When Home Rule was granted "Ireland was at that time less entitled to govern itself than India," so says "Que Vive." Moreover, where is Ireland's "natural motherland"—or Scotland's —or Wales'? Anyhow, 1 agree with "Quo Vive" in this—that Ireland's future and interests will he better assured by association as a member of the Empire, for, as the witty conspirator said "If we don't hang together we shall hang separately." Eire would, of course, lose heavily by secession; the Empire also would suffer, for, in art, drama, music, literature and the fighting services, we owe much to our association with Dark Mosaleen. K.ll.
