MANY, PILOTS OFFERING RESPONSE TO DEMAND British Wireless RUGBY, Feb. 25 There was a remarkable response last year among young men eligible for service as pilots in the Royal Air Force to an announcement of an increased number of vacancies,to be filled as the result of the Government's air defence expansion programme. The response, however,, has been beaten this year when the number of vacancies was again., larger. The Air Ministry announces that although tho number of pilots required by the Royal Air Force this year, ending on March 31, Was 1750, the whole of that number had been obtained by the end of January. Of that total, approximately 1300 had been accepted from candidates from civil life aud the balance, in accordance with normal policy, were selected volunteers from serving airmen in the Royal Air The total number of pilots entered ■ince the expansion began in 1933 now exceeds 4500.
