BURGLAR ROBS SHOP

ABOUT 80 SUITS STOLEN ENTRANCE BY SKYLIGHT MAN SEEN EARLIER ON ROOF About £2OO worth of men's clothing is reported to Lave been stolen from premises at 344 Queen Street on Saturday afternoon, after entry had been made through a roof skylight into the tailor's sbop of Mr. Rj Jaffe. Mr. Jaffe said one of his employees saw a man on the roof when he arrived at work at about 7.30 a.m. but did not take any further notice of the incident after the man had told him that he was repairing the roof. The shop was closed at about 12.30. At 4 o'clock another of the employees found the back door open and the interior in a state of confusion. It was later discovered that about 30 suits and other clothing, and about £2 in money, had been taken. On the floor was a litter of wrapping paper and the remains of a large ball of string, which is thought to have been used for parcelling up the stolen goods. To reach the floor of the shop, which is on street level, the intruder climbed to the roof from an alley running behind the shop into Rutland Street. He then removed the skylight, lifting it out bodily by removing the hinges, and dropped about 12ft. to the floor below. To leave the shop the back door was opened from the inside. A similar theft was made several years ago from the same shop. On that occasion entrance was gained through the front door. £IOO TAKEN FROM SAFE TOKOMARU BAY BURGLARIES [BY TELEGRAPH —FRKBS ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, Saturday Burglars entered five premises at i Tokomaru Bay last night.
