DAHLIA EXHIBITION
FINE DISPLAY AT HUNTLY CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TROPHIES [FROM OUlt OWN CORKKSrONDENT] HUNTLY, Saturday A splendid display of dahlias, cut flowers and vegetables was exhibited at the autumn show, under the auspices of the Himtly Horticultural and Beautifying Society, on Friday and Saturday. The dahlia blooms exhibited vera outstanding, both for colour and quality, and the judge, Mr. A. J. Shailer, of Palinerston Kortli, was favourably impressed. Tlio total number of entries received was 200 and included exhibits from Waikokowai and Hamilton. The Mayoress, Mrs. W. C. E. George, presented the prizes as follows:—Open class (collection of 1 giant decorative dahlias): I). Peden (Huntly). Amateur class (six varieties, giant decorative dahlias): H. Bond (Huntly). Amateur cup (points prize): H. Bond.- Bailey Memorial Shield: H. Bond. Novice cup (points prize): W. Huberts (Huntly). Cut Bowers (points prize): Miss E. Fairhurst (Huntly). Decorative class: Aliss E. Fairhurst. Special trophy donated by Mrs. D. i'eden lor hest exhibit by a lady in tlio decorative section: Miss E. Fuirhurst. Vegetables (points prize): F. Meek. Certificates of merit for champion blooms wero awarded as follows:—Champion dahlia (open): D. Peden's "Angcli Rossi." Giant decorative daltlia and champion of champion* (amateur): H. Bond's "Lady Moira Ponsonby." Hybrid cactus: H. Bond's "Clara Scott." Medium dahlia: H. Bond's "Tommy Atkins." Small dahlia (seedling): S. Handley's "Hamilton." Novice classes: Champion dahlia, M. Shepherd (Huntly), "Lady Moira Ponsonby"; medium dahlia. AV. Roberts, "Jersey Beauty"; hybrid cactus, W. Roberts, "New Glory';; small dahlia, S. Peden, "Mary Christine." ]
