HIGH TEMPERATURES
86 AT INVERCARGILL RAIN URGENTLY NEEDED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION-] INVERCARGILL, Thursday The highest temperature recorded in Invercargill since 1925 was registered to-day, the reading being 86 degrees. With the exception of 1925, it is probably the highest ever recorded here. The summer in Southland has been extremely dry and hot, and if there is no rain soon the position will become serious. Already many pastures are burnt almost beyond recovery and dairy production is being retarded. The temperature at Gore yesterday was 92 degrees.
