RISE IN EGG PRICES Although the retail prices for most vegetables have not changed greatly during the week, supplies in many lines, including cabbages, cauliflowers, peas, beans and lettuce, are very short and the quality generally is not good. The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Martha Gold Mjning Company (Waihi), Limited:— For the period ended February 12, comprising 28 crushing days, 22,004 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 5350 fine ounces of gold and 35,633 fine ounces of silver. This included 89 tons mined,from Grand Junction area, which yielded 28 fine ounces of gold and 97 fine ounces of silver. No. 4 Level.—On the vein at 115 ft. in the Lovett south-east crosscut have driven a further 26ft. east, making a total of 62ft. The reef is split up and work is stopped. West, a further 27ft. has been driven, and the lode looks more premising. No. 5 Level. —Lode at 85ft, in the Taylor crosscut: Driving west, the next 10ft. assays 12s 6d a ton. The width of the lode is about 3jft. No. 6 Level.—North branch of the Martha lode: The crosscut at 600 ft. west is in a total of 109 ft. At 36ft in there is a vein of quartz 6in. wide of good grade.
