THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT * - Led by a further recovery in metal issues, signs of improvement were again evident on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Conditions wore more active, with a more confident undertone. in a fairly wide range of dealing, gains predominated for the first time for a considerable period. Following' further heartening reports from London, metals continued tho recovery which was evident at the closo of the previous day. Broken Hill Proprietary moved up in two sales. Both issues of Electrolytic Zincs also were lifted on sale. An indication of greater confidence in industrial operations was the fact that the general movement in giltedged securities was downward. Banks were still quiet with little movement. Auckland Gas shares wore a shade easier. A feature of the miscellaneous industrials was the further ground gained by G. J. Coles in two transactions. The rise in Woolworths (Sydney) was continued, following the announcement of record profits, although the market eased at the close. The Auckland Exchange will not hold the usual call to-morrow morning, a holiday being observed for the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's show.
