STOCKS AND SHARES
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE GAINS MADE IN METALS After a quiet opening on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday there was a sudden rise in values at the iinal call. The recovery movement was of marked proportions, metals and industrials benefiting mainly in a much more confident atmosphere. Gilt-edged securities continued to be strong. Among banks, activity in New Zoalands at late rates was again evident. New South Wales were well supported after a sale at a slight decline. Unions sold for the first time .since the dividend was paid. Both issues of Westport-Stocktons changed hands, the preference sale reJlecting the recent dividend announcement. Easiness marked dealings in Northern Steams. All metals firmed, Broken Hill Proprietary gaining ground in a transfer. G. J. Coles made a substantial advance.
