WHANGAREI WOKK £33,000 BUILDING SCHEME TOWN'S LARGEST UNDERTAKING [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday Work has been commenced on the alterations and additions to the Whangarei Hospital, which will take nearly two years to complete, and will cost nearly £33,000. The contractor is Mr. 0. Haigh, of Whangarei. A new laundry is to be built on property adjacent to tho hospital recently acquired by tho board. Substantial additions will be built to the nurses' home, new quarters provided for the domestic staff, and tho administration block altered. A new women's ward will be provided, while extensive remodelling of all tho present wards, except tho men's surgical ward, will be carried out. This is the largest building contract let in Whangarei, tbe construction of the Public Trust building in 1922 for £22,000 being the previous largest expenditure on one building.
