GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD
WELCOME TO MR. J. V. MACKY GRANTS FOR BUILDING A welcome was extended yesterday by the Auckland Grammar School Board of Governors to Mr. J. V. Maek.v, who has been appointed university representative on the board to lill the vacancy caused by the death of Sir Algernon Thomas. The chairman, Dr. E. Roberton, mentioned Mr. Macky's connection with the Auckland Grammar School as an old boy and a former president of the Old Boys' Association. Professor H. W. Segar has been re-appointed a member of the board. Reference was made to the death last week of Mr. W. AVallace K.idd, a former chairman of the board, Dr. Roberton paying a tribute to his deep interest in and work lor the schools. The board passed a resolution of sympathy with Mrs. Kidd. The grant of £4:33 toward tho provision of a dressing room and showers at the Mount Albert Grammar School was notified in a letter from the Education Department. Ihe jjrant approved is a subsidy of £2 on every £1 raised locally. The offer of £4OO by friends of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School to assist in building a Jubilee Library lias been supplemented by a grant from the Government of £450. As the school jubilee falls at the beginning of September it was stressed that immediate action should bo taken to ha\c the building commenced.
