LIQUOR AT RACES
WOMEN IN BOQTHS DUNEDIN TEST CASE COURT DISMISSES CHARGES s [by telegraph—press association] DUNEDIN, Wednesday Decision was given •by Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., this morning in the licensing test case in which Matthew Henry Dawson was charged with breaches of the Licensing Act. He held that no proceedings could be taken for a breach of the condition on which the licence was issued for a booth at the Duncdin Jockey Club's Summer Meeting at Wingatui. The alleged breaches of the conditional licence were that women were allowed in the public booth at the racecourse, and that defendant exposed liquor to women. The magistrate said the facts did not support the charge of "allowing," which required knowledge or something in the nature of connivance on the part of tho licensee. Also, he added, the charge of "exposing" was clearly insupportable.
