BOROUGH STATUS
DECISION AT ELLERSLIE POLL TAKEN ON PROPOSAL COUNCIL ELECTION IN MAY A poll on the proposal of the Ellerslie Town Board to raise the district's status to that of a borough was held yesterday. The result of the voting was as follows: —For the proposal, 194; against, 135. Only 329 of the 1723 electors listed on the roll voted. It is the intention of the Town Board to arrange with the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to hold the election of tho borough council when the board, in common with other local authorities, relinquishes office next May. This will avoid the duplication of expenditure on electoral purposes. CHANGE AT PAPAKURA MAJORITY OF ONLY 56 VOTES A poll taken on the proposal to form the Papakura town district into a borough was carried yesterday by a majority of 56 votes. The figures were 168 in favour of the proposal and 112 against. There were nine informal votes. The 289 voters represented a small percentage of the roll number of 1000.
