KING REY TRIUMPHS

TE RAPA WIN INCREASE IN BETTING TRAY BIT CAPTURES SPRINT SURPRISE BY SINKING FUND # .VICTORY FOR LLANGOLLEN A feature of tho opening of tho Waikato Racing Club's Summer Mooting at To Rapn on Saturday was the vie tory of King R ey i„ the chief event, the Storey Memorial Handicap. Although he has been racing consistently it was King Rey's first success since he won at Ellerslie on January 2, 1937, and his first since passing into the ownership' of Mr. N. Grafas last Eastor. King Rey was the only eachway favourite to score, but two win favourites, Huskin and Llangollen, were also victorious. All the other races were won by second and third fancies, with the exception of the Puketaha Handicap, which Sinking Fund won at double figures. In spite of very heavy rain during the week, the going was good, although a trifle dead. The racing' proved highly interesting, and there were several very close finishes. The weather was very humid, and there was a large attendance. The totaliBator handled £46,406, compared with £44,633 on the first day last year, an increase of £1773.
